Who we are
The Seaside Heritage Network is a charity (registered as a Foundation CIO with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, charity number 1216037) that raises awareness and understanding of the heritage associated with the UK seaside holiday.
For the purposes of data protection law, the Seaside Heritage Network is the "data controller" of the personal information described in this policy. If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, you can contact us using the details at the bottom of this page.
What we collect
We collect very little personal information, and only when you choose to give it to us:
- Newsletter sign-up: if you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address (and name, if you give it) through Brevo, the email platform we use to send it.
- Event bookings: bookings for our events are handled by TicketSource, which collects your name, email address and booking details. If you choose to join our mailing list when booking, we add your email address to our newsletter in Brevo.
- Getting in touch: if you email us, we'll see your email address and whatever you choose to tell us in your message.
- Website visits: our website host keeps standard server logs, which include your IP address, to keep the site secure and working properly. See "Cookies and analytics" below for how we measure visits.
We don't ask visitors to create an account, and there's nowhere on the site to leave public comments.
Lawful basis
Under UK data protection law, we rely on the following grounds to use your information:
- Consent – for sending you our newsletter, including if you opt in when booking an event. You can withdraw this at any time by unsubscribing.
- Contract – for processing your event booking.
- Legitimate interests – for replying to enquiries you send us, and for keeping the website running securely.
Cookies and analytics
Our website doesn't set any cookies of its own.
We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics tool, to understand how people use our site. Plausible doesn't use cookies and doesn't store any personal information – it only records anonymous, aggregated statistics such as page views, how people found the site, and which country they're visiting from. No individual visitor can be identified from this data. You can read more in Plausible's data policy.
Video content from YouTube on our Resource Hub is shown as a static thumbnail – nothing is loaded from YouTube until you press play. Once you do, the video loads in "privacy-enhanced mode" (via youtube-nocookie.com), which reduces, but doesn't fully eliminate, the cookies Google may set. You can read more in Google's privacy policy.
If we ever add anything else that sets cookies, we'll update this page and ask for your consent first.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your personal information. We only share it with the organisations that help us run the services below:
- Brevo
- Sends our email newsletter to subscribers.
- TicketSource
- Handles event bookings.
- Netlify
- Hosts our website.
- 123 Reg
- Hosts our email.
- Plausible
- Provides anonymous, cookie-free website analytics.
- YouTube (Google)
- Hosts our videos, only when you choose to play one.
We may also need to share information if required to do so by law.
International transfers
Some of the services we use are based, or store data, outside the UK. Where this happens, we rely on providers that protect your information to UK standards, for example through the UK's adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter: we keep your details in Brevo for as long as you stay subscribed. If you unsubscribe, your email address is kept on a suppression list so we don't email you again by mistake.
- Event bookings: TicketSource keeps booking records under its own privacy policy. [Confirm how long SHN keeps attendee lists after an event.]
- Enquiries: we keep emails only for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any necessary follow-up.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- ask us what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy of it
- ask us to correct information that's inaccurate or incomplete
- ask us to delete your information
- ask us to restrict how we use your information
- object to us using your information
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent
- ask for your information to be moved to another organisation, where technically possible
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator.
