We want everyone to be able to use the Seaside Heritage Network website, whatever their needs. This statement explains how accessible the site is, where we know it falls short, and how to get help.
Our aim
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We're a small, volunteer-run charity, and while we've worked hard on accessibility, we know some parts of the site don't fully meet this standard yet. These are listed below.
What we've done
You should be able to:
- navigate the whole site using only a keyboard, with a clear visible focus showing where you are
- use a "skip to main content" link to jump past the menu on every page
- use most of the website with a screen reader, with pages organised into clear regions and headings in a logical order
- zoom in up to 400% without content being cut off, and use the site on a phone or tablet
- understand images through text descriptions, with decorative images hidden from screen readers
- filter and search the Resource Hub using a keyboard or screen reader
- play videos using a clearly labelled play button, with a written summary of each resource on the page itself
We also run automated accessibility tests on the site as part of our regular development work.
Known issues
We know some parts of the site aren't fully accessible:
- Some PDFs aren't fully accessible. A few older documents, such as our commissioned walking trail guides, weren't created to work well with screen readers. The key information from each one is summarised on its resource page, and we can provide the content in another format on request.
- Walking trail videos don't have audio description. These short videos are set to music, with no narration, and are there to give a flavour of the trail. All the important information is in the text on the same page.
- Captions on our recorded seminars are generated automatically by YouTube and may contain mistakes.
- Some services we link to are run by other organisations. Event booking (TicketSource), our newsletter sign-up (Brevo) and Bucket & Spade List voting (Microsoft Forms) aren't under our control, and their accessibility may vary.

If you need any content in a different format, such as accessible PDF, large print or plain text, or if you find something on the site that's difficult to use, please email us at info@seasideheritage.org.uk.
Please tell us the page or document you're having trouble with, and what would help. We'll aim to reply within 5 working days.
We're a small volunteer team, so we can't always fix things straight away, but we'll always look at what we can do.
How we tested this site
This site was last tested on 30 September 2026. We tested it using:
- automated accessibility testing (axe) across our main types of page
- keyboard-only navigation
- the VoiceOver screen reader on Mac

We'll review this statement at least once a year, and whenever we add significant new features to the site.
