Wonders of the Deep
In this seminar, we delve into the depths of the relationship between life below the waves and seaside resorts, exploring the wonders of the deep. We are pleased to welcome Bryce Stewart, Senior Research Fellow at the Marine Biological Association and Associate Professor at the University of Plymouth, who considers the social and cultural importance of the UK’s coastal fishing fleets. Mike Benbough-Jackson, Senior Lecturer in Modern British History at Liverpool John Moores University, shares the inter-war fascination with ferociously speedy sea serpents which gripped British resorts. Seaside Heritage Network’s very own Kathryn Ferry reflects on the enduring use of the seahorse motif in resort architecture.
