On Friday 18th September 2026, the Seaside Heritage Network hosted its Big Day Out in Scarborough. The day started with several tours, including Scarborough Central Tramway, a walking tour with Chris Hall, and a guided tour of the Rotunda Museum.
We were hosted by Britannia Hotels at the listed Grand Hotel in Scarborough, where we were joined by John Oxley from Big Ideas by the Sea, Toby Hyam and Adrian Spawforth from This is Scarborough, and we had a chat with Andrew Martin, author of 'To the Sea by Train'.
The main event of the day was the announcement of the 2026 Bucket and Spade List winners. This year the prizes went to Weymss Bay Station in 3rd place, North and South Marine Parks in South Shields in second, and the winner was Herne Bay Pier.
The following day we were treated to a tour of Scarborough seafront led by Kathryn Ferry and a talk from Allan Brodie on sun, sex and sea in Scarborough in the 1730s.
All in all, an excellent Big Day Out!
