Mission and Values

Clacton Helter Skelter

The Seaside Heritage Network defines seaside heritage as that which is linked to the popular mass tourism culture of the 19th and 20th centuries up to the present day, both tangible and intangible.

It is important to recognise and celebrate this heritage because seaside tourism was an industry that created its own distinct architectural legacy.

It is this which provides the nostalgic backdrop to modern seaside tourism, making our coastal resorts interesting and increasingly dynamic places.

Our Aims

To bring together individuals and groups with a shared interest in seaside heritage around the UK. This would include third sector campaign groups, building preservation trusts, civic trusts, owners of historic buildings (private and public), museums, academics and historians, as well as members of the public who will be able to benefit from this wide range of expertise.
To celebrate the unique contribution of seaside heritage to British life and demonstrate the importance of built heritage to the continuation of that legacy so that it can be better identified and explained.
To raise the profile of seaside heritage by giving it a collective voice.
To share best practice and connect relevant organisations via a website, social media presence and conferences in order to drive a change in ideas and actions regarding seaside heritage.
