Railways at the Seaside

A red miniature railway at the seaside, by a boating lake

The Seaside Heritage Network is pleased to announce a special fundraising seminar: Railways at the Seaside

Railways transformed the British seaside taking more people to more places more quickly. In our July seminar we’re going to be joining the Railway 200 celebrations with three superb speakers contributing their considerable expertise to our event about trains at the seaside. We’ll welcome Tim Dunn, historian, geographer, TV presenter and trainspotter, to share his research on miniature railways beside the seaside. Dr Richard Furness, engineer, railway enthusiast and author of the ten-volume Poster to Poster book series, will discuss the role played by railways in the development of seaside holidays. We’re also delighted to have Dr Susan Major, author of Early Victorian Railway Excursions: The Million Go Forth, talking about working-class excursions to the seaside during the period 1840-1870.

Tickets for this seminar cost £5 with proceeds supporting the work of the Seaside Heritage Network.
