Lost Margate: A walking tour with Dan Thompson

Tall apartment building and seafront promenade under a cloudy sky, illuminated by warm sunlight, with sandy beach in the foreground.

The Seaside Heritage Network are delighted to collaborate with Dan Thompson, award-winning artist, writer, speaker, and Director of Marine Studios, to bring you a marvellous Margate mooch which will uncover the resort's hidden stories.

Margate only exists to take money from Londoners, so it is constantly rewriting its story, and that means that Margate doesn't tell its real story - which we'll uncover on this walk. Starting at Maxwell Fry's station, we'll explore a mysterious prehistoric landscape, the Lion Queen of England, lost rivers, Diplock's Brutal tower block, an overlooked Terry Farrell gem, and TS Eliot's breakdown on Margate Sands.

We'll end at Marine Studios with tea/coffee and biscuits (and toilets) and a chance to view a possibly unrivalled collection of Margate tourist guides and ephemera.
